Safeguarding and Policies
At Cobras Alternative Provision, safeguarding is at the core of everything we do. We are dedicated to creating a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment where every young person feels protected, valued, and empowered to thrive. Our comprehensive safeguarding framework is designed to uphold the highest standards of care and accountability across all aspects of our provision.
Robust Safeguarding Framework
Our safeguarding policies are meticulously developed to comply with national legislation and guidance, including:
Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE)
Working Together to Safeguard Children
The Children Act 1989 and 2004
Prevent Duty Guidance
These policies are regularly reviewed and updated to reflect any changes in legislation or best practice, ensuring that our safeguarding measures remain effective and responsive.
Staff Training and Vetting
All staff members, including mentors, coaches, and volunteers, undergo enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks prior to engagement. We provide ongoing training in safeguarding, child protection, and professional conduct to ensure that our team is well-equipped to recognize and respond to any concerns. This training includes:
Recognizing signs of abuse or neglect
Understanding the procedures for reporting concerns
Promoting a culture of vigilance and accountability
Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs)
We have appointed Designated Safeguarding Leads who are responsible for overseeing our safeguarding practices. They serve as the primary point of contact for any safeguarding concerns and work closely with external agencies, schools, and families to ensure a coordinated approach to child protection.
Comprehensive Policies
Our suite of policies encompasses various aspects of safeguarding and operational conduct, including:
Child Protection Policy: Outlines procedures for identifying and responding to concerns about a child’s welfare.
Health and Safety Policy: Ensures a safe physical environment for all participants.
Behaviour Management Policy: Promotes positive behaviour and outlines strategies for addressing challenging behaviour.
Equality and Diversity Policy: Commits to providing an inclusive environment that respects and celebrates diversity.

Collaborative Approach
We believe that safeguarding is a shared responsibility. We work in partnership with parents, carers, schools, and external agencies to create a cohesive support network for each young person. Open communication and collaboration are key to identifying risks and implementing effective interventions.
